Optical illusions and curiosities
In the long corridor, you will find a variety of exhibits that tease and challenge our sense of sight. Here, you can explore the "waterfall" illusion by staring into a rotating spiral, "blend faces" with a friend, or discover how static patterns appear to move and parallel lines look crooked. By the way, what happens when an object's perspective is reversed, making what is physically close look far away, and vice versa?
Some of these illusion exhibits were originally created for an exhibition at the City Syd shopping center back in 2011. When that exhibition closed, it was moved here to Vitensenteret. At the end of the corridor, you can also let a computer guess your age! By analyzing your facial features, it determines your gender and estimates how old you are. See if you can trick the machine into changing your age by making funny faces. What does it take for you to "become" younger or older?
