LYSHEMSEN

Explore the magical world of light.

If you want to know what a kaleidoscope is, you should visit the light mezzanine, where you will find Norway’s largest kaleidoscope! It is so big that you can stick your head inside and see twenty different versions of your own head at the same time.

In addition to playing with reflections, the light mezzanine allows you to experiment with colored shadows and color mixing, recreate Goethe's experiments with "physiological" colors, investigate the light spectrum, create a 3D shadow theater, and study the polarization of light.

You can also spy on the visitors below the mezzanine through our "upside-down" periscope. By the way, did you know that when you look at a computer screen, you are looking through a polarizing filter? LCD screens are coated with a thin plastic film identical to the one on your polarized sunglasses. If you remove this film, the image on the screen becomes completely invisible - but if you put your sunglasses on, the hidden image appears! Come see this phenomenon with your own eyes on the light mezzanine.
