Fun facts

The periscope consists of two tilted mirrors inside a pipe. Soldiers during the 1st world war used periscopes to be able to look above the edge of the trenches. In a submarine the periscope is used to see what happen on surface while it is submerged.

Traditionally lenses are used in periscopes to enlarge what you see and to cover a larger part of the field of vision. Modern periscopes use video cameras instead of mirrors and lenses.
