One of the most exciting and popular attractions at Vitensenteret is the planetarium - a 360-degree digital cinema used to showcase the wonders of outer space through an artificial starry sky and immersive 360-degree films.
Our planetarium seats 59 people and features a hemispherical screen that completely fills your field of vision when seated. Two high-powered, state-of-the-art laser projectors seamlessly blend the images together, delivering an experience that simply cannot be compared to an ordinary cinema. The sound system is also the first of its kind in Norway; in fact, it is one of only six in existence worldwide. It consists of 38 speakers distributed across 3 different audio levels, creating a truly unique sense of space and immersion.
The planetarium is equipped with the latest software from Sky-Skan, called "Dark Matter." This program allows for free navigation both inside and outside our solar system. On this journey, we can visit all the well-known planets, along with their moons and distinct features. The surfaces of the planets and moons are all generated from actual images captured by telescopes and space probes, provided by NASA and ESA. The content is continuously updated as new discoveries are made. All dimensions within the software are consistent with the latest scientific knowledge of the universe.
